At the same time, B. Sagintayev stressed that the integration of databases of all surveillance systems and the use of artificial intelligence will help achieve a long-term and sustainable reduction in crime in Almaty. This is the number one task for the near future.
On his Instagram account, the akim of the city stressed that digitalization is the most effective mean of fighting crime.
“To effectively ensure public safety and, most importantly, prevent offenses, we are introducing a project for video monitoring of crowded places. In 2019-2020, 1 thousand video cameras were installed, 103 existing analog cameras were converted to digital format, the operational control center of the Road Police was modernized and a new monitoring center was created, ”wrote B. Sagintayev.
The software allows you to search for people by signs, detect cars, bicycles, abandoned objects, as well as identify attempts at unauthorized entry into homes or offices. In the future, it is planned to increase the number of cameras of the video monitoring system up to 4 thousand. This will fully cover the public spaces of the metropolis.
According to B. Sagintayev, in general, the capabilities of 120 thousand video surveillance cameras installed under budget programs, private organizations and within the framework of PPP are used in Almaty. * About 6 thousand crimes have been solved with the help of external video surveillance systems. Video cameras of the Automated Information System "Road safety" and the Hardware and Software Complex "Sergek" recorded 1.4 million violations.
“Thanks to the video cameras installed in all buses, the number of pickpockets has been reduced by more than 2 times. 85 criminal groups that committed thefts in public transport were exposed, ”the akim of Almaty noted.
