At a meeting with the mayor of Tbilisi, Bauyrzhan Baibek noted that a number of large infrastructure projects are being implemented in Almaty, a large investment potential for Georgian businessmen is laid in the fields of logistics, tourism, and the implementation of the Smart City project.

"We got acquainted with the principles of the formation of public spaces in Tbilisi, since the main vector of development of Almaty is carried out according to the principle" City for people, not for cars ". Last year, we upgraded a third of the historic center of the city, this year we plan to reconstruct as much. The transport reform is being actively implemented through the renewal of the bus fleet, the development of the bicycle infrastructure and the introduction of the BRT. A project for the construction of LRT is being prepared. At the same time, we are interested in the experience of Georgia in terms of marketing, legislative solutions in the tourism sector, which we identified as one of the new drivers of the economy of Almaty. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Cooperation Agreement between Almaty and Tbilisi, so I am confident that 2018 will be a new stage in strengthening and intensifying bilateral relations," the Almaty’s governor said.

In turn, the Mayor of Tbilisi stressed that the two countries have always had warm and fraternal relations, also noting the need to expand cooperation between the two cities. During the meeting, Kakha Kaladze expressed interest in a number of projects implemented in Almaty in the field of sustainable transport and utilization of solid domestic waste.

"At high rates of development, megacities face common problems, including the increase in the number of private vehicles, the wear of utility networks, the utilization of solid domestic waste, etc. All this leads to a deterioration of the environment, therefore for us, as for Almaty, an important aspect is a stable system public transport. Now the car park in Tbilisi has only 700 buses, but we will continue updating it. In addition, in the next few years we plan to reconstruct the old city. I think that there is a great potential for cooperation and exchange of experience in all these areas," said the Mayor of Tbilisi.
