Central State Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan on August 5, 2016 at 21-00, will hold a solemn opening of “ALMATY THROUGH THE AGES" exhibition dedicated to 1000th anniversary of the city of Almaty.

One of the most significant events of 2016 in our city is holding the 1000th anniversary of Almaty.

Based on the versatile analysis of written and archaeological sources, the scientists have scientifically proven that the starting point in the history of Almaty as the city is X-XI century, which determines its millennial age.

According to the Decision of the 38th Convention of the UNESCO General Conference, celebration of the 1000th anniversary of Almaty was officially included in the Calendar of Jubilees and memorial dates of the UNESCO for 2016.

This event is intended to ensure promotion in the public mind of Kazakhstani and foreign audience of an image of Almaty as a modern metropolis, major regional cultural, financial, economic, and tourist centre, as well as the city with rich and ancient history.

The aim of the exhibition  is to show the history of Almaty since the ancient times till our time as one of the oldest and largest cities in the country having historic, cultural, and financial value. The exhibition will demonstrate exhibits of the Bronze Age - early Iron Age - medieval epoch - ante-revolutionary (19th century) and Soviet (20th century) periods. A small part of the exhibition is supplemented by materials of modern Kazakhstan.

Based on the richest collections of the Central State Museum of RK about the history and culture of the country from antiquity to modernity, the exhibition “Almaty through the Ages” fully discloses all historically significant economic, political, and cultural processes associated with the formation and development of the city of Almaty.

As part of the event, a gala launch of the new night architectural illumination of the building of the Central State Museum of the RK will take place.

All halls of the Central State Museum of the RK will be open for free until midnight.
