All urban markets will be modernized in Almaty

Nowadays, there are 57 markets in the largest city of the country. Over the past five years, the authorities dismantled more than 20 markets, which were on the red lines, they did not suit for the sanitary standards and the architectural appearance of the metropolis. Today, pedestrian zones have appeared in their place, enlarged roads with the strips for public transport have been done, aboveground pedestrian crossings have been made.

At the same time, there are some markets in the city where the basic trade conditions haven’t been done yet , and the businessmen work in containers and kiosks. Such markets are unacceptable for the further development of the city. Just a few days ago, more than 100 trade and catering facilities were dismantled in front of the "Car city" shopping center. By the end of the lease on the territory of the "Rakhat" market, it is planned to make the alley for the citizens.

"Nowadays, 16 markets have been modernized.Over 16 billions tenge of them were invested by the owners. At the end of this year, six markets reconstruction will be completed. Another five ones are being modernized and they will be completed next year," Almaty’s executive committee’s press service informed.

The city authorities have identified a number of criteries for the modernization of markets, including the compulsory construction of a stationary building in accordance with the sanitary -epidemiological standards and fire safety demands, preserving the architectural appearance of the city, the parking zone and the observance of country's tax legislation , the registration of entrepreneurs, terminals and cash registers.

The market modernization has already had the positive effects. Last year, the wholesale and the retail trade turnover of the city increased by 3.4% and amounted to 12.8 trillions tenge. This became possible due to the area expansion and the number of trade places, including the entrepreneur’s works transparency.

It should be reminded that for a comfortable urban environment creation, a number of important city’s avenues will also be renewed in Almaty this year, besides the previously modernized streets of Panfilov, Zhibek Zholy, Gogol, Kabanbay batyr, Bayseitova, Tolebaev and the Astana Square. According to the principle of polycentricity, nearly 600 yards will be landscaped in all districts of the city, 157 streets for 155 km will be renovated and more than 30 km of pedestrian sidewalks will be built.
