June 25. The stations of automated bike rental “Almaty Bike” will appear in Almaty

Today a Memorandum on cooperation in the development of the cycling sports and infrastructure between the Almaty Mayor's Administration and the JSC “Samruk-Kazyna” National Welfare Fund has been signed in Almaty.

The document is aimed at the development of the cycling sports and infrastructure in Almaty, the promotion of healthy lifestyle and improving the environment, as well as creating and developing the system of bike rental stations in the city, and the development of the children's cycling sports and cycling tourism.

“Almaty is the city of sports, tourism, and medicine. Therefore, we pay much attention to this all. In the framework of the City Development Program until 2020, which was discussed with the citizens, there is a priority – a city for people, not for cars. In implementing this paragraph, we are narrowing the space for private cars and make it comfortable for pedestrians", - the Mayor of Almaty Bauyrzhan Baybek said.

According to the City Development Program “Almaty-2020”, an active work on creation of the effective model of a systematized transport structure of the city is being done.

According to the Head of the “Velocity” Fund Almagul Kassymova: “The first “Almaty Bike” stations will appear on the central streets of the city by the metro stations. The system is operated from solar power panels and will be equipped with parking terminals. The bikes’ construction is made of chrome-plated steel, which is used in the aviation industry. Bikes are equipped with an anti-vandal system – each item is unique and does not fit any other bike; its total weight is 24 kg”.

As the project developers stated, the installation of the stations will be done in three stages:

I. 50 stations and 270 bikes;

II. 50 stations and 1460 bikes;

III . 100 stations and 680 bikes.

It is worth mentioning that 91% of the respondents (users) said that these bikes were comfortable both for men and women.
