In Almaty, flowers were laid for the monument of hunger victims in 1931-1933 years

The governor of Almaty Bauyrzhan Baibek mentioned that last year on behalf of the Head of State, a monument to the victims of hunger was built in the center of the city by showing all the sorrow of the Kazakh people in the image of a mother pressing a child who was exhausted from hunger.

"This symbol, which brings us the echoes of those hard days, has entered the list of sacral monuments of our history. As the President of the country noted that we’ve been a generation that did not see the horrors of war, hunger and repression. And the younger generation should know what exactly our ancestors had to go through, what suffering they had to go through in order to preserve peace, harmony and unity in the future," said Bauyrzhan Baibek.

He noted that in those difficult years the Kazakh people not only survived themselves, but also they gave the shelters, gathered together the people of other nationalities exiled to the Kazakh land.

"This day the dream of those heroes became true. We have become an independent and prosperous country. Under Kazakhstan roof, which became the abode of peace and unity forming a single nation, live the representatives of more than 100 ethnic groups. All this became possible due to the creative and the peace-loving policy of the Head of State and the wisdom of our people, gathered around their Leader," Almaty’s governor underlined.

We remind you that the monument for the victims of hunger in 1931-1933 was built in the park "Karagaili". Three-meter sculpture of the mother, which pressed the child exhausting from hunger to the breast, is made of bronze and granite. In the period from 1918 to 1933 in Kazakhstan, according to different data, more than three million people died, including from 1931 to 1933 about 1 million 700 thousand people died. Victims of the repression in1937-1938 were more than 100 thousand Kazakhstan people.
