The procedure for paying compensation to victims began on 01.07.2020 within the framework of the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated 10.01.2018 "On the Compensation Fund for Victims" (hereinafter – the Law).
According to Article 6 of the Law, a list of victims entitled to compensation is provided.
Thus, compensation is awarded to minors who are victims of crimes related to sexual violence, to persons recognized as victims of crimes related to human trafficking and torture, to persons who have suffered serious harm to their health or infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV/AIDS), persons endowed with the rights of the victim, in the event of the death of the victim.
Also, according to Article 8, paragraphs 1,3 of the Law, after recognizing a person as a victim, he has the right to apply for compensation to the state body performing the functions of criminal prosecution.
The limitation period for filing an application is three years from the date of recognition of a person as a victim.
