Archpriest (senior priest) of the Holy Dormition Cathedral-Dmitry Biden, served in the Church for 20 years. Correspondent of the website Kazislam.kz talked to him about extremism, service during the coronavirus, the relationship of religions in Kazakhstan, racism, and the role of religion in General.
⠀
— How do you think the relations between religions are developing in Kazakhstan?
⠀
— We in Kazakhstan have learned to find a common language. In my opinion, relations between religions in Kazakhstan are at a high human level. We have very good relations with the Spiritual administration of Muslims, the Roman Catholic Church, and the Evangelical Lutheran Church.
⠀
We meet regularly at the initiative of the Committee on religious Affairs. We hold meetings and various joint events, so we always maintain a dialogue.
⠀
— Do you cooperate with churches in Russia?
⠀
- Yes, of course. In Russia, there are higher ecclesiastical educational institutions and spiritual academies where our students can improve their education.
⠀
Also, thanks to the head of our Church, Metropolitan Alexander, shrines and icons of saints of God are often brought to the capital from the same Russian Federation.
⠀
We also have our own relic, which is very significant for the entire Christian world: a particle of the relics of Andrew the first-called, who was an Apostle and disciple of Christ, he was one of the first to follow Christ. These relics were in Byzantium (Constantinople) until its fall, then they were taken by the crusaders to Italy. In 2010, at our request, Pope Benedict gave some of the relics to the Church of Kazakhstan.
