A joint meeting of the expert club "Sarap" of KISD and the student discussion club of KazNU on the topic: "Political reforms: risks and prospects"

Today a joint meeting of the expert club "Sarap" and the student discussion club "Political Scientist" of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University was held in Almaty on the topic: "Political reforms: risks and prospects".

The event is organized by the Kazakhstan Institute of Public Development with the support of the Ministry of Information and Social Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The event was attended by well-known political scientists, the teaching staff of KazNU, undergraduates, doctoral students of the university and experts of KISD.

The participants of the expert club expressed their opinions on the program of political reforms announced by the Head of State K. Tokayev in the Address to the People of Kazakhstan "New Kazakhstan: the Path of renewal and Modernization", and also highlighted the first priority measures aimed at the political transformation of Kazakh society.

In addition, the experts assessed the prospects for future reforms and analyzed possible risks.

The moderator was the Chairman of the Kazakhstan Institute of Social Development Kazbek Maygeldinov.

The head of the KISD voiced the relevance of the event, noting that the new program of political reforms is an important historical period that will give impetus to all spheres of life of our republic:

"The main purpose of our event is in-depth coverage of the main theses of political reforms that were announced by the Head of State as part of the Address to the people of Kazakhstan."

During the Meeting, K. Maygeldinov spoke about the activities and results of the work of the KISD for 2021, and also presented the results of a telephone survey on the awareness of Kazakhstanis about the latest Message:

"1200 respondents were interviewed in 14 regions and 3 cities of republican significance (Nur-Sultan, Almaty, Shymkent cities). According to a telephone survey, 78.5% of the population received a positive impression after listening to the Message of the Head of State. As for what our citizens remembered the most, 38.8% remembered the initiatives on the formation of three new regions. 29.7% recorded in their memory a ban for the President's closest relatives to hold senior positions in the civil service and in the quasi-public sector."

In his speech, the director of the Center for Topical Studies "Alternative", political scientist Andrei Chebotarev said that he fully supports the initiative of the Head of State to terminate his membership in a political party for the term of presidential powers:

"It is important that political parties do not have dominance in terms of support for the current government. If the President has an equidistant status from all parties, then no one can accuse him of supporting the party administratively. The most important thing is that it will increase the level of legitimacy of the Head of State," the political scientist concluded.

During the event, the Kazakhstan Institute of Social Development and Al-Farabi Kazakh National University signed a Memorandum of mutual cooperation.
