A new program of political reforms for "New Kazakhstan"

On March 24, an expert meeting of the «Sarap» club was held in Nur-Sultan, dedicated to the Address of the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to the people of Kazakhstan «New Kazakhstan: The Path of renewal and modernization».

The event was attended by deputies of the Mazhilis of the Parliament, representatives of political parties, political scientists, public figures and experts of the KISD.

The participants of the expert club discussed the initiatives of the Head of State aimed at further development of the country, political modernization, protection of human rights, as well as ways to solve the tasks outlined in the Address.

Vice-Minister of Information and Social Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan Daniyar Kadirov made a welcoming speech.

He noted that in order to involve active citizens in solving urgent problems and issues of the country's development, mechanisms for involving NGOs in the process of state decision-making at all its stages will be improved together with interested government agencies.

"The President's reforms affect almost all political institutions and are a logical continuation of the reforms that have already begun. A lot of things have to be worked out. The key powers of the main institutions of power, the President, Parliament, party, electoral and judicial-law enforcement systems will be reviewed.

The final transition from a super-presidential form of government to a presidential republic with a strong parliament awaits us.

As for the Ministry, work will continue on improving the activities and updating the composition of public councils. Currently, 102 councils have been formed, 111 more councils are at the stage of formation. At the same time, the formation of the updated composition will ensure the maximum involvement of active NGOs, parties and civil institutions," the Vice Minister concluded.

In turn, Chairman of the Board of the Kazakhstan Institute of Social Development Kazbek Maygeldinov highlighted the main aspects of the President's address, noting that the new political reforms have become a logical continuation of the political transformation: "Limiting the powers of the President is an important step as a departure from excessive concentration of presidential powers. This is as a signal to prevent family-clan division and the emergence of a certain new oligarchy. In addition, the improvement of the electoral process, independence and transparency of the judicial system, increasing the role of civil society institutions and the media were announced. Thus, real prerequisites are being created at the legislative level for the development of multiparty system in the country, the development of pluralism of opinions. This is a real signal for all parties that the time has come for real competition in the struggle for power and work with the electorate."

It should be noted that on March 16, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev delivered an extraordinary Address to the people of Kazakhstan at a joint session of the chambers of Parliament, which was devoted to the implementation of the program of political reforms and a number of socio-economic measures.
