How millennials are changing Kazakhstani society - discussed at the IX Civil Forum

The generation that was born in the mid-80s and 90s has already entered adulthood. Purely demographic factors doom him to replace the former elites in all spheres of society.

How can the millennial generation change the socio-economic and political development of society? What socio-cultural problems exist in society? What opportunities open up and what obstacles will you have to go through? These issues were discussed by members of the President's talent pool at the discussion platform "Millennials and Change in Society" as part of the IX Civil Forum.

Zulfiya Suleimenova, a member of the Presidential talent pool, notes that the generation of millennials are studying abroad and mastering new trends in the world. Now the challenge is to use this knowledge for the good of the country.

“We are all very different. We believe in different things, we see different things, we absorb different things. It seems to me, if you take our generation in general, the generation of millennials - this is the first generation when globalization began to take place. International flights and travel have begun, that is, we have access to the world. And I think that these best practices that international experience gives us need to be introduced. And they need to be transferred to civil society, ”said Zulfiya Suleimenova, Deputy Director of the Climate Policy and Green Technologies Department of the Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Experts believe that the composition of millennial generations is different, their adaptation to changes in society is also different.

According to the head of educational and social programs of the British Council in Kazakhstan Daniyar Mukitanov, family traditions and values are important for all generations of Kazakhstanis. And that should be the unifying factor.

“For Kazakhstanis, for Kazakhs, the most important thing is family. This is our strength. Kazakhs have an expression “Every Kazakh is the one and only for me”. When I speak Kazakh, I speak more broadly, all citizens of our country, of any nationality. And if we unite our society under this framework, that we all together are a single family, Kazakhstani, and we work together so that our family is rich and successful. As in any family, there are differences, some have such an opinion, some others. But we are still one family, so we cannot fight, swear, destroy our home. Here is a proposal as a unifying idea, ”says Daniyar Mukitanov.

As a reminder, today is the second day of the IX Civil Forum online. The event was organized by the Civil Alliance of Kazakhstan with the support of the Ministry of Information and Social Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
