Over the years of the repression in Kazakhstan, more than 100,000 people were arrested, including 25,000 were shot. Among them there were also the leaders of the Alash Orda Movement, the representatives of the Kazakh intelligentsia, who took the first and very important step on the path to our sovereignty, the foundations of the statehood of our people. During the years of Stalin’s repression, our country suffered tremendous losses. Indeed, only in the case of the Alash Orda, 4297 people were repressed, including 2062 were shot. Kazakhstan also became a
place of deportation of citizens from all over the Soviet Union. In total, almost 2 million people were confined in 11 special camps across the country.
Of course, this period of our history needs deep study. Last year a working group was created in East Kazakhstan region to study and systematize the data stored in our museums and archives.
This is a common history of all peoples whose outstanding children suffered from the political repression. We remember and honor the memory of them.
