Ust-Kamenogorsk airport to be re-opened on October, 1 - Akimat of East Kazakhstan region

Reconstruction of the airport of the regional center is ahead of schedule. That was announced by Akim of East Kazakhstan region Danial Akhmetov while visiting the airport.

The reconstruction of Ust-Kamenogorsk airport is nearing completion. In the near future, lighting equipment will be installed at the airport and an additional building will be built for the technical services.

During the modernization of the airport, the old runway was replaced with a new one with a modern surface. At the same time, its length increased to 2.8 km, and its width - up to 60 meters. The new runway characteristics meet international standards and will allow us to increase the number of destinations and routes, as well as to accommodate aircraft of a higher class.

A special commission has already arrived in East Kazakhstan region to certify the airport. Overflights under the guidance of specialists from the Civil Aviation Committee are planned as well. According to the head of the region, the previous reconstruction of Ust-Kamenogorsk airport was carried out back in 1996, so the renovation was justified by worn-out necessity.

“On October 1, the airport of the regional center will be re-opened,” Danial Akhmetov said after visiting the facility. It should be added that the regional akim instructed to prepare documentation on the project for the reconstruction of the airport building itself in order to make the process of passengers’ arrival more comfortable.
