Kazakhstan chairs the SCO Justice Ministers Meeting

On 5 September 2023, the tenth Meeting of the Ministers of Justice of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation member states was held in Shanghai (China), during which Kazakhstan assumed the chairmanship of the SCO Meeting of the Ministers of Justice of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation member states.

Secretary of the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission of the People's Republic of China Chen Wenqing, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation participated in the Meeting.

During the Meeting, Minister of Justice Azamat Yeskarayev noted that the priorities outlined by President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev within the framework of Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation will be of strategic importance for all member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. The focus of our chairmanship will remain the fight against the ‘three forces of evil’: transnational organised crime, drug trafficking and cybercrime. These strategic directions are reflected in President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s State of the Nation Address ‘Economic Course of a Just Kazakhstan’ of 1 September 2023.

Also Minister Azamat Yeskarayev noted that the chairmanship of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Meeting of Ministers of Justice will make a significant contribution to the development and strengthening of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.

In a friendly, open and constructive atmosphere of mutual understanding, the participants discussed the issues of innovations in the activities of the Ministries of Justice, noted the need for further development of legal services and forensic activities, and agreed to meet next year in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Following the Tenth Meeting, the Ministers of Justice of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation member states signed a Joint Statement.

The Kazakh delegation held bilateral and multilateral meetings on the development of cooperation among the ministries of justice of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation member states.
