The Court ordered Mukhtar Ablyazov to pay more than $140 thousand

The Court in New York rendered the decision to impose further sanctions on Mukhtar Ablyazov ordering him to pay $ 140,115.60 in order to cover Almaty akimat and BTA Bank`s (Plaintiffs) expenditures on attorneys’ fees.

In July 2019, the Court granted the Plaintiffs’ motion for imposing further sanctions on M. Ablyazov based on his refusal participate honestly in the pre-trial disclosure process, and granted an “adverse inference instruction”. The Court recommended that Ablyazov not be allowed to submit new evidence in his defense at the upcoming final jury trial. This sanction is instructing the jury that Ablyazov willfully destroyed documents and refused to cooperate in discovery, and the jury may therefore conclude that he was hiding evidence that would incriminate him.

The Court took into account the Plaintiffs' arguments regarding the amounts of expenses in attorneys’ fees, and on February 7, 2020 ordered M. Ablyazov to pay $ 140,115.60.

Based on the Court Order M. Ablyazov is obligated to pay
$ 140,115.60 by May 7, 2020.
