The term of validity of a patent depends on the type of industrial property object. For a patent for an invention, this is 20 years from the date of filing the application, for a patent for a utility model, this is 5 years from the date of filing the application with the possibility of extending it for 3 years, and for a patent for an industrial design, this is 15 years from the date of filing the application with an extension period of no more than 5 years.
The scope of legal protection provided by a title of protection for an invention and utility model is determined by their formula, and a patent for an industrial design is determined by the totality of its essential features presented in the images of the product (model) and listed in the list of essential features of the industrial design. The description and drawings may be used to interpret the formula of an invention or utility model.
