Higher education in Abay region

At the beginning of the 2024-2025 academic year, there are 3 active higher education institutions in Abay region.

The total number of students in 2024-2025 academic year in higher education institutions amounted to 19,046 people, of whom women – 11.857 people (62.3%) In the current academic year, 5.592 people were admitted, of whom women – 3.094 people (55.3)%.

The share of students studying in state higher education organizations was 60.1%, in private organizations - 39.9%.

In terms of specialties, the main share of students is studying pedagogical sciences - 34.9%, health care and social security - 26.3%, business, management and law - 13%.

Education in higher education institutions is conducted in three languages: Kazakh - 75.4%, Russian - 18.3%, English - 6.3%.

“Higher education” is acquired by citizens who have general secondary or technical and vocational or post-secondary education.

University - an organization of higher and (or) postgraduate education, carrying out on various fields of scientific and pedagogical activity, personnel training, fundamental and (or) applied scientific research and being a leading scientific and methodological center.

National organization of higher and (or) postgraduate education - an organization of higher and (or) postgraduate education, which has a special status.

Research university - a university that implements a five-year development program approved by the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and uses the results of its activities for the integration of education and science, generation and transfer of new knowledge and technologies.

National Research University - a research university that has a special status.

“Institute - an organization of higher and (or) postgraduate education, carrying out scientific and pedagogical activities, as well as training for professional activities

Academy - an organization of higher and (or) postgraduate education, carrying out in a certain area of scientific and pedagogical activity and being a scientific and methodological center

Bachelor's degree - higher education, the educational programs of which are aimed at training personnel with the award of the degree of “Bachelor” in the relevant specialty.

A student who has passed the final attestation on mastering the educational program of higher education is awarded the degree of “Bachelor” or is assigned the qualification of “Specialist”.
