On the state of atmospheric air protection in the Abay region

In 2023, emissions of pollutants into the atmospheric air from stationary sources amounted to 38,5 thousand tons and their level decreased by 1,2% compared to the previous year.

The enterprises of the region have captured and neutralized 82.9% of pollutants from the total amount of pollutants coming from all stationary sources of pollution.

The largest number of sources of pollutants into the atmosphere was concentrated in Semey city administration (22,2 thousand tons),  Ayagoz district (5,0 thousand tons), Zharma district (4,2 thousand tons) and  Borodulikha district (3,3 thousand tons).

In the reporting year the specific pollutants released into the atmosphere as carbon monoxide – 13.2 thousand tons, inorganic dust – 10.6 thousand tons, sulfur dioxide 5,7 thousand tons, nitrogen dioxide 3.6 thousand tons and others.

Methodological explanations

Emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere – the entry into the atmospheric air of pollutants (having an adverse effect on the health or activity of the population, on the environment) from stationary sources of emissions (organized and unorganized).

Stationary organized sources include mobile sources from which pollutants enter through gas and air outlet systems (chim-neys, aeration lights, ventilation shafts, etc.).
