Consumer price index for Abay region for May 2024

The consumer price index for the region, which characterizes the level of inflation, for May 2024 compared to the previous month amounted to 100,4%.

Among food products, in May 2024, compared with April 2024, prices for wheat bread made from premium flour increased by 5,5%, confectionery by 3%, fish and seafood by 2,6%, fruits and vegetables by 2,1% (potatoes by 28,7%, carrots by 22,5%, onions– by 21%, beets– by 11,3%, pears–by 1,8%, apples– by 1,5%), tobacco products–by 1,2%, dairy products (hard cheese– by 1,2%, sour cream by 0,4%), tea– by 0,8%, alcoholic beverages beverages– by 0,7%, meat (including meat products)– by 0,6%, (beef– by 1,5%, sausages– by 0,4%, lamb– by 0,2%), pasta by 0,3%.
Eggs of the 1st category became cheaper–by 17,3%, sunflower oil–by 3,9%, cereals– by 2,4% (buckwheat groats– by 5%, oatmeal–by 0,1%), white cabbage– by 0,6%.
Of non–food products, clothing and shoes rose in price materials for maintenance and repair of residential premises by 0,9%, personal goods- by 0,6%, pharmaceutical products by 0,4%.
Prices for detergents and cleaning products decreased by 1,3%.
For paid services, catering services increased by 1,7%, rental housing by 1,3%, and outpatient services by 1,1%.
Liquefied gas (in cylinders) decreased by 2,4%

Methodological explanations

The consumer price index (CPI), which characterizes the level of inflation, shows the change in prices for goods and services purchased by the population for personal consumption. The set of goods and services includes 508 items. Prices are registered using a selective network of trade and service enterprises of various forms of ownership in the regional center and a certain circle of cities and district centers. The system of weights used for aggregation in terms of their expenses is calculated on the basis of household survey materials for the previous year. Since January 2022, when building the CPI, the share of food products is 40,7%, non–food products – 30,2%, paid services–29,1%.
