About marriages and divorces in the Abai region in 2023

In 2023, the RAGS bodies registered 3452 marriages in the Abai region, which is 7,4% less than in the previous year. The total marriage rate was 5,67 (per 1,000 people). Most often, marriages were entered into in the city of Semey, the marriage rate was 6,77 per 1,000 people, while the lowest level was in the Abai district – 3,37 per 1,000 people.

Of those who started a family, 75,7% of men and 75,1% of women got married for the first time, the proportion of marriage registration after divorce was 22,6% for men and 22,1% for women.

In urban areas, 2452 marriages were registered (71,0%), in rural areas – 1000 marriages (29,0%).

The average age of first marriage was 28,1 years for men and 25.5 years for women.

Of all the marriages created, 86,6% were mono-ethnic, the remaining 13,4% were interethnic.

As for divorces, their number decreased by 5,4% increased in 2022 and amounted to 1514 divorces. 1148 divorces (75,8%) were registered in urban areas, 366 divorces (24,2%) in rural areas.

The total divorce rate was 2.49 (per 1,000 people). The highest divorce rate was recorded in Kurchatov city, with a coefficient of 3.46 per 1,000 people, the lowest in the Abai district – 0.79 per 1,000 people. Thus, in 2023, there were 439 divorces per 1000 marriages (384 in 2022).

According to the duration of marriage, the largest proportion (29,5%) of divorces were among families who had been married for 5 - 9 years, 18,7% of divorces were among those who lived together from 10 to 14 years.
