Population migration in 2023

The population of the Abai region as of January 1, 2024 amounted to 607,6 thousand people, including urban – 327,6 thousand (53,9%), rural – 235,0 thousand (38,6%) people. Compared to the beginning of 2023, the population decreased by 2,6 thousand people or 0.4 %.

As a result of processing the information provided by the migration service authorities, in 2023, the number of arrivals in the region amounted to - 19965 people, the number of departures from the region – 27106 people. As a result of external and internal migrations, there was a decrease of -7141 people.

The main external migration exchange takes place with the CIS countries. The share of arrivals from the CIS countries was 129people or 76,8%, 513 people or 91,4% of the total number of migrants left.The main part of arrivals and departures from the region falls on the Russian Federation . 121 people arrived, 511 people left.

There was a negative balance with the countries of the far abroad, 39 people arrived in the region, 48 people left, a positive balance with the People's Republic of China and Germany .

The number of migrants by interregional movements, 8598 people arrived, 15346 left, the negative balance is 6748 people.

Population migration - the movement of people (migrants) across the borders of certain regions with a change of residence.

Migrant - a person who commits a migration with change of residence.

Number of arrivals - the number of people who have entered into the region because of its limits during the reporting period.

Number of departures - the number of people who left the region outside of its boundaries during the reporting period.

The number of people who arrived in the regions of the republic, as well as the number of those who left them, is determined as a result of the development of data on registration and deregistration for permanent residence, received from the Committee of the Migration Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Net migration - the difference between the number of arrivals to the region during the reporting period and the number of departures from it.
