Culture of the Abay region

As of January 1, 2025, there were 137 public libraries, 123 cultural and leisure organizations, 10 museums, 6 amusement and recreation parks,  1 zoos, 2 concert organization, 1 theater in the Abay region.

In 2025, the most visited were libraries (2059.9 thousand visits),  museums (265.3 thousand visits), cultural and leisure institutions (940.1thousand visits). Most events were held by cultural and leisure organizations (6 thousand units), libraries (5 thousand units), museums (1thousand units), theaters (757 units), amusement and recreation parks (84events) and concert organizations (394 units).

In the regional context, in 2025 the most visited libraries are Semeycity (921 thousand visits), Ayagoz district (202 thousand visits), Abaydistrict (114 thousand visits), Aksuat district (119.1 thousand visits),Beskaragai district (164.9 thousand visits), Borodulikha district (168.3thousand visits), Zharma district (102.4 thousand visits). And also most of them visit museums in Semey (240.2 thousand visits).

Methodological explanations

Library - a cultural organization that performs information, cultural, educational functions, has an organized fund of printed and handwritten documents, graphic, audiovisual materials, documents on electronic media and provides them for temporary use to individuals and legal entities.

Concert organizations are entertainment organizations that implement a set of measures to create conditions for the public performance of works of literature and art and the popularization of artistic groups and individual performers.

Museums are cultural organizations created for the storage, study and public presentation of museum exhibits and museum collections, designed to carry out cultural, educational and research functions and ensure the popularization of the historical and cultural heritage of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Theaters are entertainment organizations (dramatic, musical-dramatic, musical, choreographic, puppet, pantomime, satire and humor, for children and youth, youth, experimental) performing stage performances of works of literature and art.
