What to do if your leg cramps in the water

The ability to swim perfectly is a guarantee of safe rest on reservoirs. When bathing in water, you should follow the safety rules and take extra care. No one is safe from such a nuisance as cramps in the water. The main cause of cramps in water is unprepared and sudden muscle strain, as well as low water temperature. Therefore, it is best to swim in Sunny, windless weather with water temperatures above +20oC. Before entering the water, you need to pour water on the shore, so that the body gets used to the temperature of the water. In the water if you suddenly feel that your arm or leg is cramping-do everything possible to get out of the water as soon as possible. If you are far from the shore and it is difficult to get out without help, proceed as follows:

"Roll over on your back." If you were swimming on your back before, then roll over on your chest. It is important to change your body position;

- If you experience a pulling sensation in the hand, quickly and forcefully squeeze the hand into a fist, and then abruptly throw the hand to the outside and unclench the fist. Do this several times;

- If the calf muscle is cramped, try to bend and wrap your hands around the foot, and then pull the foot towards you;

- If the hip muscles are cramped, try to wrap your leg around the outside of the leg just below the Shin at the ankle. Then bend your leg at the knee and pull your hand back to your back. It is more convenient to perform all these actions lying on the water with your back;

- It is necessary to have a pin pinned to the swimsuit or swimming trunks when bathing. In case of convulsions it is necessary to prick the injured arm or leg with a pin or other sharp object;

- The most favorable position of the body to rest and gain strength – the position on the back;

- If you have no strength, and the cramp does not go away, try to attract the attention of people on the shore.
