In accordance with the resolution of the Chief State Sanitary Doctor of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated April 30, 2021 No. 17, changes were made to the schedule of vaccination by Sputnik V. At the same time, the interval between the introduction of the first and second components of this vaccine should be 45 days.
If it is impossible to carry out vaccination with the second component on the 45th day (coincidence on weekends, holidays, departure to another locality, etc.), vaccination is allowed for 90 days.
This position regarding the vaccination schedule is based on the official statement of Professor, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Director of the National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology named after Gamalei A. Ginzburg dated April 22, 2021.
According to this statement, an increase in the interval between the administration of the first and second components of the Sputnik V vaccine is possible from the minimum possible 21 days to 90 days, and an increase in the interval does not affect the strength of the immune response. This will significantly speed up the immunization of the population. In some cases, the lengthening of the interval leads to an increase in the strength and duration of the immune response in humans.
Given the current epidemiological situation regarding the incidence of coronavirus infection, there is now a need to accelerate the vaccination process in order to protect as many people as possible with the first component of the vaccine against this infection.
Measures are being taken to reduce the circulation of coronavirus among the population in order to minimize the likelihood of new mutations of the virus.
In this regard, based on the above-mentioned application of the vaccine developer, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan decided to extend the interval between the injections of the two components of the Sputnik V vaccine and to vaccinate with the second component on the 45th day after the introduction of the first component.
In addition, in individuals with reduced body resistance, an increase in the interval can contribute to the formation of high immunity tension and the duration of immune defense.
