Results of a survey of students in grades 7-9 on media literacy and information security

The Regional Innovation and Methodological Center of the State Institution "Department of Education of the Abai region" conducted a survey of students on the topic "Media literacy and information security".The purpose of the survey is to identify the level of media literacy of students in grades 7-9 of general education institutions of the districts and the city region of Abai.

The total number of students who took part in the survey was 11,876, of which 8,488 (71.47%) were in Kazakh, 3,388 (29.63%) in Russian.

The digital environment is developing dynamically in the country. School students actively use the possibilities of new technologies. And in modern conditions, it is very important not only to find information on the Internet, but also to evaluate its quality and reliability. In particular, it is obvious that we increase media literacy by receiving information from the Internet, social networks, working with it, comprehensively providing students with information about the impact and threat of networks, cybersecurity, and the impact of cyberbullying. In this sense, increasing media literacy is undoubtedly the main requirement of the time.

It is necessary to systematize the work in general in order to form the skills of working with the media in the younger generation. It is very important to involve parents in joint work, conduct a parent lecture and increase their level of knowledge in the field of media literacy.
