Rules of conduct on ice

Every year on rivers and lakes, fishermen, children playing on the ice and people who wanted to take a shortcut go under the ice.

It is advisable not to walk on the ice at all. But if you still decide to step on the ice, follow these rules:

Do not step on thin ice;
Do not go downhill onto the ice on a sled;
Do not go close to the ice where there are holes and cracks;
Do not gather in a group on the ice;
Do not walk on a prohibited area;
Do not break the ice.

Before stepping on the ice, make sure it is thick. The thickness of the ice is checked on foot. Thin ice breaks after 2-3 blows.

When walking in a group, keep a distance of 5-6 meters from each other. The lightest person with rescue equipment (for example, a life jacket) should go first.

If you go fishing, follow these rules:

Do not make too many holes nearby;
Each hole should be marked so that it does not get covered with snow at night;
Always have a strong rope 12-15 meters long at hand;
Do not go fishing alone.

If you fall through the ice, do not panic, do not be afraid, spread your arms wide, this will give you the opportunity to stay on the surface. Call for help. The air formed between your body and things will keep you afloat for some time. Lean your chest on the edge of the ice, try to crawl out onto solid ice and crawl to the shore.
