Register a marriage with a citizen of another country: What do you need to know?

The branch of the State Corporation "Government for Citizens" in the Abai region reports that since the beginning of 2024, 51 marriages with citizens of other countries have been registered in the region. The geography of foreign partners covers both near and far abroad, while marriages are most often concluded with citizens of Russia, Turkey and Uzbekistan. By the way, most couples prefer a modest registration in the RAGS, without a solemn ceremony. Often, the branch of the State Corporation in the Abai region receives questions about how to register a marriage with a foreigner, and what documents need to be prepared for this. In this regard, we explain the basic steps and requirements. To conclude an international marriage, first of all, you must apply for marriage and provide the following documents: • Identification documents from the spouses; • Certificate of marital legal capacity issued in the country of residence of a foreign citizen; • Documents on the dissolution of marriage (if any). It is important to note that certificates of marital legal capacity must be certified by an apostille in the country of origin, translated into Kazakh or Russian and notarized.
