Precautions when using electrical appliances at home

We all live in a time when electricity has become as necessary for us as the sun is for plants. Look around you, we are surrounded by various electrical appliances everywhere, wherever we are, at work, at home, on the street. They are everywhere and all around. It is difficult to imagine our life without all these things, we have become dependent on electricity as on air, water and food, as we have become very accustomed to comfort.

An analysis of fires that occur during the operation of electrical installations shows that the most common causes are:

- short circuits in wires and electrical equipment;

- leaving electric heating installations unattended;

- overheating due to poor contact;

- overload of electrical installations;

The Ayagoz District Emergency Situations Department reminds you that when using electrical appliances, you need to know the following:

- if the electrical wiring in the house or apartment is old and dilapidated, and the sockets are faulty, invite a qualified electrician for repairs; do not trust the repair of electrical equipment to random people;

- do not check the presence of electric current in devices or wires with your fingers. In order not to damage the insulation and to avoid short circuits (flame bursts), do not pinch the wires with doors, window frames, or fasten the wires to nails. It is necessary to ensure that electrical wires do not come into contact with heating batteries, water pipes, telephone and radio broadcasting wires;

- do not plug more than two electrical appliances into one socket; due to exceeding the maximum permissible load, an emergency mode of operation of the electrical wiring may occur, as a result of which a "short circuit" and, as a consequence, a fire may occur;

- when leaving the house, even for a few minutes, turn off all electrical appliances from the sockets;

- never leave children alone in a room with electrical appliances turned on;

- do not allow children to play near sockets, stick pins or hairpins into them, or pull wires, as this may cause electric shock;

If a fire does occur:

- immediately call 101 or 112 (from a mobile phone);

- try to leave the burning room as quickly as possible, help small children and elderly people leave the danger zone;

- be sure to close the doors and windows behind you (if possible), running away from the burning room, otherwise the influx of fresh air will cause the fire to flare up even faster;

- smoke in a fire is more dangerous than fire, therefore, if the room is very smoky, move to the exit on all fours, covering your nose and mouth with a wet cloth;

- if you are unable to call the fire department, knock on the floor, on the walls, loudly call your neighbors for help, try to crawl to the door or window, lying on the floor - there is more fresh air there, do not panic, stay calm and wait for help.
