Ice precautions

Ice precautions

Ice rules:

Do not go out on thin, fragile ice. Ice 7-8 cm thick can only support one person; 15 cm - small group; 25 cm - passenger car.
Do not gather in groups on separate areas of ice, especially when it is covered with snow and during a thaw (if there is water on top, the strength of the ice is halved).
Do not get close to gullies, cracks, or holes in the ice.
Do not sled, ski, skate, or jump from steep banks onto thin ice.
Do not cross the pond on ice in prohibited areas.
Don't break the ice with your foot.
Do not go out on the ice in the dark or when visibility is poor.
Do not drive motorcycles, cars or other types of transport onto the ice outside of crossings.

When helping a victim, remember:

- do not approach the place of the break in the ice while standing, but approach it crawling on your stomach with your arms and legs outstretched to the sides, otherwise you risk falling through the ice yourself;

- if you have a board, pole or hook at hand, push them in front of you and give them to the victim 3-5 meters from the hole. As soon as the person in distress grabs the object given to him, crawl him to the shore or onto strong ice.

Once in the water, try to remain calm, do not flounder, try to lean your chest on the edge of the ice with your arms thrown forward and get out onto the ice yourself. Pull one leg onto the ice first, and then the other. Roll and then crawl away from the hole. At the same time, call for help.

Remember that ice is especially dangerous in spring and autumn.

The main rule of safety on ice: without being firmly confident in its strength and reliability, do not step on it!
