First aid in case of electric shock

Most often it strikes with an electric current from the "household" voltage up to 220 watts. in this case, the person himself will most likely withdraw his hand and there will be no strong damage. If the current strength is large, then muscle cramps occur that do not allow it to be released ("non-releasing current").

The vocal cords are spasming, and the victim can't even call for help. Respiratory and cardiac arrest occurs. In such a situation, a person's life depends on timely and competent first aid.

Try to turn off the electricity. In no case do not touch a person with an electrical injury — you may also be electrocuted.

In the case of even short-term loss of consciousness, dizziness, headaches, heart pains, the victim must be urgently taken to the hospital, since his condition can deteriorate dramatically, up to the development of collapse and heart attack

In severe cases, when the victim is unconscious, it is necessary to start resuscitation measures: mouth-to-mouth artificial respiration and indirect heart massage.

To do this, it must be laid on a flat, hard surface (on the ground or floor). Crossing your palms and straightening your arms at the elbows, push hard on the sternum area once a second.

Heart massage is better combined with artificial respiration. The head should be tilted back as much as possible, pushing the lower jaw, mouth and nose closed with a napkin or handkerchief. After taking a deep breath, press your lips to the lips of the victim and gently inhale air, filling his lungs. A small child can be given artificial respiration by covering his mouth and nose. You need to inhale air about 30-35 times a minute.

A combination of heart massage and artificial respiration by one person:

Two pushes – one breath. Do not forget that the lung volume of an adult is much larger than that of a child, so do not take a full chest of air. You also need to remember that children's bones are quite fragile, so when conducting an indirect heart massage, they need to regulate the force of shocks.

With proper artificial respiration during air injection, the chest rises, exhalation occurs spontaneously. Resuscitation measures should be carried out before the arrival of the ambulance team, or before the resumption of independent breathing of the victim.

Treatment of the consequences of electric trauma is carried out in a hospital.
