About fertility in 2021
In the Republic of Kazakhstan in 2021 RAGS (Civil registration) bodies registered 446 491 births and compared to 2020 the number of births increased by 4.6%. Number of live births in urban areas 262 507 people (58.8%), in rural areas 183 984 (41.2%) people.
According to the results of 2021 were born 230 272 (51.6%) boys, girls – 216 219 (48.4%). The sex ratio at birth was 106.5 boys per 100 girls.
Total fertility rate in 2021 amounted to 23.50 births per 1000 people (2020 - 22.76), in urban areas - 23.34 (2020 - 22.60), in rural areas - 23.75 (2020 - 22.98).
Among the regions of Kazakhstan, the highest birth rate was observed in the city of Shymkent (32.35 births per 1000 population), Mangistau (31.98), Turkestan (31.58) regions. The least high birth rate was observed in Soltustik Kazakhstan (12.01), Kostanai (12.97) and Pavlodar (15.58) regions.
The total fertility rate (TFR) is the number of children born to an average of one woman throughout the entire reproductive period (15-49 years) - in 2021. In the republic it was 3.32 (2020 – 3.13), in urban areas - 3.08 (2020 – 2.89), in rural - 3.75 (2020 – 3.53).
Among the regions of the country, the highest level of TFR was recorded in Turkestan (5.10), Mangistau (4.57) regions, and the lowest level - in Kostanay (1.88) and Soltustik Kazakhstan (1.97) regions.
In 2021 the average age of the mother at birth was 29.5 years (2020 - 29.3 years), in urban areas - 29.9 years (2020 - 29.6), and in rural areas - 29.1 years (2020 - 28.9).
In most regions of Kazakhstan, the average age of the mother at birth exceeded the republican level. In Shygys Kazakhstan region this indicator was 33.3 years, in Nur-Sultan city – 30.3 years and Almaty city – 30.2 years.
In 2021, share of the first births compared to 2020 remained at the same level, share of the second and third births decreased, and for the fourth and subsequent births increased.
Over the past year number of twins was 4216 (2020 – 4286) , the number of triplets 43 (2020г. – 45).
