According to the household survey outcomes in 2020, the share of the population whose income below the subsistence minimum was 5.3% (in 2019 year - 4.3%).

Considering the poverty level in the context of regions in 2020, it should be noted that the highest values were registered in Turkestan (12.2%), Soltustik Kazakhstan (6.7%), Shygys Kazakhstan (6.5%) regions, the smallest is in the city of Nur-sultan (1.5%).

The most difference between the level of urban and rural poverty in 2020 was observed in Atyrau (9.8 times), Mangistau (3.2 times) regions.

The Gini coefficient in 2020 was 0.291. The ratio of the 10% of the most and 10% of the least affluent population (the fund ratio) was 5.9 times. The depth of poverty and the severity of poverty were 0.8% and 0.2%, respectively.

The share of the population whose income below the subsistence minimum (poverty level) is the ratio of the population having the income used for consumption below the subsistence minimum as a percentage of the total population.

The Gini coefficient makes it possible to numerically estimate the degree of inequality. It establishes the degree of deviation of the actual distribution of income in numerically equal groups of the population from the line of their even distribution.

The depth of poverty shows the average deviation of the level of income (consumption) of people who are below the subsistence minimum from the value of the subsistence minimum.

The poverty severity shows inequality among the poor – the extent to which the income of the poor varies from their average value.

The fund ratio measures the ratio between the average incomes population tenth and first decile groups.
