On the launch of an online telemetry service for domestic TV channels

The Ministry of Information and Social Development, within the framework of the project on the development of a media measurement system in Kazakhstan, implemented since 2020, has created a specialized online service aimed at ensuring the transparency of the telemetry process in Kazakhstan.

The service allows all interested parties to get acquainted with the auditorial indicators of television viewing of the main Kazakhstani TV channels on-line.

The online service is available to all Internet users on the official website of the Ministry at: https://www.gov.kz/memleket/entities/inf/page/top10frame?lang=ru

The results of telemetry are indicators of the audience of Kazakhstani television, calculated on the basis of information on switching of TV channels in the subscriber network "ID TV" of JSC Kazakhtelecom, processed by "MediaHills" using a dynamic system for calculating the audience of all other TV sources, based on the updated data of the measuring panels TNS Central Asia (Kantar).

The implementation of this online service was the result of a strategic partnership between TNS Central Asia (Kantar), MediaHills and Kazakhtelecom JSC, as well as expert work within the Working Group of the Ministry for the development of a media measurement system.

The audience indicators presented on the Ministry's website are formed for more than 400 thousand households in 21 cities of Kazakhstan (Aktau, Aktobe, Almaty, Atyrau, Karaganda, Kokshetau, Kostanay, Kyzylorda, Nur-Sultan, Pavlodar, Petropavlovsk, Rudny, Semey, Taldykorgan, Taraz, Temirtau, Turkestan, Uralsk, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Shymkent, Ekibastuz).

At this time, the service provides indicators on the share of TV channels (the number of TV channel viewers as a percentage of all TV viewers who watched any of the TV channels during the analyzed period of time), minute-by-minute coverage (the number of TV viewers who watched the TV channel at least once a minute) and TV coverage (number unique viewers who watched a specific TV show).

It is expected that the launch of the service will allow TV channels to more flexibly and quickly respond to requests from viewers, and will also help to increase the competitiveness of Kazakhstani television content.
