An expert discussion was held on the role of science in the development of civil society

Today in the capital, an online round table was held on the topic "The role of science in the development of civil society", organized within the framework of the project "Academy of NGOs" of the OO "Center for Civil Initiatives".

The round table was attended by the head of the Center for Support of Civil Initiatives Lima Diaz, national coordinator of the educational project "Street Law Kazakhstan" Khalida Azhigulova, member of the National Council of Public Trust Andrey Chebotarev and other experts from among representatives of civil society.

“All representatives of intersectoral interaction, including science and education, should take part in the development of civil society. The scientific community should not be limited to expert support, its potential allows it to participate in the development and implementation of educational programs for advanced training of non-governmental organizations and other initiatives and projects, ”L.Dias noted.

According to her, this year the Academy of NGOs will continue its work in the field of enlightenment and education of the non-governmental sector. Today, the project faces several tasks, including the organization of an online school of social entrepreneurship "Areli Urpak" for 160 NGOs and distance learning, mobile training for representatives of 800 NGOs, the development of professional skills of public associations and strengthening cooperation between the state and NGOs.

Representatives of science, for their part, stressed that NGOs should be involved in conducting scientific research.

“Studying international experience, we see that NGOs play an important role in the formation of state policy, including legislation. Therefore, thanks to the active participation of NGOs, the quality of laws may change, which will take more into account the needs of vulnerable segments of society, ”stressed the national coordinator of the educational project“ Street Law Kazakhstan ”Khalida Azhigulova.

Soon, the Mazhilis of the Parliament will consider a draft law providing for control over the state by civil society.

“For this it is necessary to have the appropriate research and analytical tools. After all, when the mechanism of public control is launched, the importance of research activities of NGOs will increase, ”says Andrei Chebotarev, a member of the National Council of Public Trust.

During the event, the participants voiced several problems that need to be worked on together, including simplifying access to scientific research, increasing the research budget, transferring some government functions to a competitive environment.

As a reminder, the organizers of the round table were the Center for Civil Initiatives OO with the support of the Center for Support of Civil Initiatives and the ALMAU School of Politics and Law.
