Shajere, Shajara (Arabic. shajara, lit. — tree, including genealogical tree: shajaratun-nasabi) is the name of oral or written historical and genealogical traditions of some Oriental nations. It tells about the origin of a family, tribe or people, and describes historical events and documents. Oral shezhire were widely spread among Kazakhs. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, Kurbangali Khalid, Mashhur Zhusip Kopeev, Shakarim Kudaiberdiuly and others began to record and publish them. A significant contribution to the study of Kazakh shezhire was made by historian Aristov.
