Today in Moscow in the House of Human Rights was held VII meeting of the Eurasian Ombudsman Alliance (EAO) of the nine member countries of the Alliance - Russia, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Kyrgyz Republic, Uzbekistan, Iran, Mongolia, Tajikistan and the Republic of Serbia. Ombudsmen from Belarus, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan also participated as observers.
At the meeting, participants exchanged best practices in legal education, problems and prospects of human rights and freedoms in the participating countries.
In turn, the Head of the National Human Rights Centre of Kazakhstan, Zere Utebayeva informed the participants about the ongoing extensive work on implementation of constitutional reforms aimed at strengthening human rights mechanisms and ensuring the rights and freedoms of citizens, one of which is the Constitutional Law "On Commissioner for Human Rights" adopted on November 5, 2022.
Also, Utebayeva told about the Kazakhstani experience in the sphere of legal education, interaction of youth, with non-governmental organizations in the sphere of human rights, including international, as well as about the participation of the Ombudsman Institute in the process of conducting the upcoming extraordinary elections of President of Kazakhstan.
At the end of the event, Tatyana Moskalkova made several suggestions on the joint participation of EAO members in legal education projects. In particular, she urged to hold a joint Universal Human Rights Lesson. Involve the youth of Eurasia in the Territory of Senses and Eurasia Global. Establish an award from the EAO for achievements in human rights protection. Use the platform of the Research and Educational Center for Human Rights of the Russian Federation to train foreign colleagues. Join efforts to prepare memos for migrants. EAO Ombudsmen to join a pilot project to form a digital library of the Alliance.
The Eurasian Ombudsman Alliance is a platform for dialogue on the issues of ensuring, developing and promoting cooperation between different states in the areas of human rights protection and legal education. The format was established in 2017, and today it includes nine countries.
