Currently, Kazakhstan has formed stocks of basic food products.
According to the information of the regions and the Union of Retail Chains, sugar reserves are concentrated in Stabilization Funds and retail facilities, which are sufficient to meet the demand of the population for 3 months.
As part of expanding the geography of suppliers and reducing risks, work is underway to purchase raw sugar from other countries for the production of finished sugar: Kazakhstan has the opportunity to import 250 thousand tons of sugar without paying customs duties by the end of August 2022.
To maintain sugar prices at a stable level, central and local executive bodies will undertake a number of measures, including the use of a "revolving scheme" by retail facilities and interventions from stabilization funds.
In 2021, Kazakhstan's own sugar production amounted to 276.9 thousand tons, which is 89% higher than in 2020.
About 60% of sugar and molasses consumption in Kazakhstan (including industrial use) is imported products (raw sugar). In 2021, 506.9 thousand tons of sugar and raw sugar were imported to Kazakhstan from other countries.
275.8 thousand tons were imported from the Russian Federation to Kazakhstan, which is 12.7% less than a year earlier. From Brazil - 164.6 thousand tons, Belarus - 35.5 thousand tons, Mexico - 30.4 thousand tons.
