Kazakhstan and the UK signed a Roadmap between the UK and Kazakhstan for a strategic partnership in critical minerals

 

London, 11 March 2024 - Iran Shаrkhan, Vice Minister of Industry and Construction of the Republic of Kazakhstan, made a working visit to the United Kingdom of Great Britain.

The purpose of the trip was to participate in the «Mineral Processing and Circular Economy» (11-15 March 2024) to learn about UK opportunities in the field of critical raw materials.

During the event, Kazakhstan and the UK signed a Roadmap between the UK and Kazakhstan for a strategic partnership in critical minerals. The signed Roadmap has opened a new chapter of Kazakh-British relations on sustainable minerals.

During the business forum, a meeting was held between Iran Sherkhan, Vice Minister of Industry and Construction of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Nusrat Ghani, Minister of Industry and Economic Security of the United Kingdom.

The Vice-Minister emphasized the main basic principles of the Republic of Kazakhstan such as «raw materials in exchange for technology and entry into the global value chain». Also invited British companies «to participate in investment projects in the Republic of Kazakhstan».

Nusrat Ghani warmly welcomed the Kazakh delegation in her speech. She highly appreciated the work of the two parties towards the formation of a long-term partnership. The Minister noted with satisfaction the signing of the Road Map, which is considered an important landmark event in transferring the current interaction in the field of CRM between London and Astana to a practical level. She confirmed her confidence in achieving quick results that will become the basis for further progress.

The event also included B2B meetings, where entrepreneurs from the Republic of Kazakhstan and Great Britain were able to discuss a wide range of issues related to the development of bilateral cooperation in the field of critical raw materials and specific project proposals. Also representatives of Kazakhstani and European companies presented their projects and services.

Also within the framework of G2B, meetings were held with British mining and metallurgical companies and enterprises - Techmet, Maritime House Ltd., Ionic Rare Earth, Mkango Resources Ltd., Haig Barrett Partners and FSEE.

The introductory tour will also include a visit to the manufacturing sites of UK companies such as Cornish Lithium, British Lithium Pilot Plant, HyProMag, Rolls-Royce, Materials Processing Institute and others until 17 March 2024.
