Kazakhstan and Slovenia: A New Stage in Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation

Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Republic of Slovenia Altay Abibullayev held a meeting with Zoran Stevanović, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia.

The parties discussed current issues on the bilateral agenda, with particular emphasis on strengthening political dialogue, enhancing inter-parliamentary cooperation, and expanding trade, economic and humanitarian ties.

Ambassador Abibullayev congratulated Zoran Stevanović on his election as President of the National Assembly and emphasized that Kazakhstan regards Slovenia as an important and reliable partner within the European Union. The counterparts highly appreciated the outcomes of the official visit of Nataša Pirc Musar, President of the Republic of Slovenia, to Kazakhstan on 31 March – 1 April 2025, noting that the visit had given a new impetus to the further development of bilateral relations.

The Ambassador briefed the President of the National Assembly on the political and constitutional reforms being implemented in Kazakhstan under the leadership of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, presented a copy of the new Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and outlined the country's key foreign policy priorities and major achievements. Particular attention was devoted to prospects for expanding trade, economic and investment cooperation, including greater involvement of Slovenia's Port of Koper in the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor).

For his part, President Stevanović highly commended the strong, trust-based and mutually beneficial relations between Kazakhstan and Slovenia, highlighting the opening of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Ljubljana in 2024 as an important milestone in bilateral relations. He underscored Slovenia's recognition of Kazakhstan as its key partner in Central Asia and expressed his readiness to further promote and strengthen bilateral cooperation.

The parties also discussed ways to enhance inter-parliamentary cooperation, including the upcoming elections of deputies to the Kurultai of the Republic of Kazakhstan scheduled for 23 August 2026, the re-establishment of the Kazakhstan–Slovenia Parliamentary Friendship Group in the National Assembly of Slovenia, and closer cooperation within the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).
