In Ticino Aim to Develop Technological and Cultural Partnership with Kazakhstan

Bellinzona, October 9, 2025 - Kazakhstan's Ambassador to Switzerland Kairat Sarzhanov paid an official visit to the canton of Ticino, during which he met with the President of the Ticino State Council, Norman Gobbi, and other members of the cantonal government.

The parties emphasized the importance of developing interregional ties to strengthen trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian cooperation between Kazakhstan and Switzerland and discussed the possibility of implementing specific projects in these areas. In this context, the signing of Memorandum of Cooperation between the cities of Almaty and Lugano, and between the Almaty region and the canton of Ticino, establishing an institutional framework for cooperation at the regional and municipal levels was noted.

The Kazakh diplomat outlined the key points of the recent President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s State of the Nation Address, noting that the reforms implemented in Kazakhstan open up broad prospects for mutually beneficial partnership with Switzerland in technology, transport and logistics, energy, and other areas. He highlighted the strategic "Alatau City" project, aimed at creating a regional technology and manufacturing hub, as an example of common ground.

The Swiss canton's leadership expressed interest in deepening cooperation and a willingness to visit Kazakhstan to discuss opportunities to leverage Ticino's experience and scientific potential in the fields of artificial intelligence, introduction of cryptocurrency, and other advanced technologies.
