Lisbon, 7 October 2025 – The prospects for expanding cooperation between Kazakhstan and Portugal, amid emerging global challenges and opportunities, were the focus of discussions during a meeting between the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Portugal Jean Galiev and the President of the Portuguese Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade (AICEP) Madalena Oliveira e Silva.
The Kazakh diplomat briefed Oliveira e Silva on the main priorities outlined in the recent State of the Nation Address delivered by the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, placing particular emphasis on the most promising areas of bilateral trade, economic collaboration, and investment. Key sectors highlighted included tourism, information technology and artificial intelligence, agriculture and agro-industrial development, transport and logistics, the modernisation of water infrastructure, and energy, among others.
Commending Kazakhstan’s favourable investment climate and steady economic growth, Oliveira e Silva expressed readiness to foster partnerships across the identified sectors. “The time has come for Portuguese companies to explore new markets,” she stated. “When such opportunities and prospects present themselves, it is only right that we embrace risk and step beyond our comfort zones.”
The two sides reached an agreement to organise a series of joint events aimed at bringing the business communities of both countries closer together and identifying mutually beneficial initiatives.
AICEP is a governmental body responsible for promoting investment and supporting the internationalisation of the Portuguese economy. Through its headquarters in Portugal and a global network of offices across 50 countries, it facilitates export growth and the international expansion of Portuguese enterprises.
