Geneva, 26 September 2025 – Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the World Trade Organization, Kairat Torebayev, held a meeting with Jim Skea, Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
The parties discussed the key areas of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the IPCC in the context of global efforts to combat climate change. The discussion focused on promoting science-based climate policy, enhancing the capacity of Central Asian countries in climate research, and exploring opportunities for Kazakh experts to participate in the work of the IPCC.
Torebayev reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s commitment to the goals of the Paris Agreement and implementing national measures aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to climate change, emphasizing the importance of scientific support from the IPCC for these efforts.
J.Skea encouraged Kazakhstan to actively engage national experts in IPCC author teams and working groups contributing to assessment and special reports, and expressed readiness to further strengthen collaboration within the IPCC framework and broader international scientific platforms.
