Kazakhstan’s Digital Future and Prospects for Cooperation with Armenia Discussed in Yerevan

Yerevan, September 18, 2025 – In Yerevan a roundtable was held dedicated to the Address of President K.Tokayev to the people of Kazakhstan: “Kazakhstan in the Era of Artificial Intelligence: Current Challenges and Their Solutions through Digital Transformation.”

During the event, participants were briefed on the key messages of the Address. In his remarks, Ambassador B.Imanbayev informed about Kazakhstan’s current development trends, ongoing large-scale reforms and the country’s foreign policy priorities.

 

Armenian experts emphasized the significance of the initiatives outlined in the Address, both in the context of Kazakhstan’s internal modernization and their relevance for the wider region. They noted a shared policy agenda between Armenia and Kazakhstan in areas such as digitalization, infrastructure development, and energy cooperation. According to J.Melikyan, Head of the Department for International Relations Studies at the Center for Public Relations and Information under the Office of the Prime Minister of Armenia, the Kazakhstan’s course toward building a digital state “opens new horizons for deepening cooperation with Armenia, especially in the fields of artificial intelligence and the creation of smart cities.”

One of the key highlights of the discussion was the Alatau City project, envisioned as a future technological hub with international potential A.Safaryan, Chairman of the “Integration and Development” association
described the initiative as “a symbol of technological breakthrough – a promising platform for international collaboration, where timely engagement is of crucial.”

Experts also highlighted Kazakhstan’s systematic and timely approach to digital transformation. “Digitalization is an integral part of modern development. Kazakhstan is rapidly adapting to the new technological reality, and the achieved results are impressive,” noted G.Melikyan, PhD in Political Science and founder of the Armenian Institute for Resilience and Statecraft.

During the discussion, political analysts also noted their attention on the Address’s foreign policy aspects, underlining Kazakhstan’s active role in advancing Eurasian integration and developing new transport and logistics routes. Given the geographic positions of Kazakhstan and Armenia, they emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts to establish efficient transport links between Central Asia and the South Caucasus”.

Participants noted the consistency and transparency of Kazakhstan’s political transformation. “Since 2019, each Presidential Address has marked a logical step in the country’s long-term development strategy. Today we can clearly see how technological transformation is accompanied with political modernization, which commands respect,” said A.Iskandaryan, Director of the Caucasus Institute.

At the same time, G.Makaryan, Head of the Center for Socio-Economic Development, stressed that “for the successful implementation of ambitious goals, a solid professional base is required, and training of specialists and exchange of expertise in this field should become a priority goal.”

Reflecting on the current trends in the development of Kazakh-Armenian cooperation, the participants noted that this year has been particularly significant and substantive for bilateral relations. They highlighted that the dialogue between the two countries continues to advance dynamically, demonstrating steady progress across the political, economic, and humanitarian spheres.

In conclusion the participants underscored the value of continuing such experts meetings as a vital platform for exchanging views and developing joint initiatives to further expanding mutually beneficial cooperation.
