Kazakhstan and Slovenia Expand the Horizons of Academic Partnership

Maribor, August 27, 2025 – Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Slovenia Daniyar Sarekenov held meetings with Professor Zdravko Kačič, Rector of the University of Maribor, and Professor Ludvik Toplak, Rector of Alma Mater Europaea University. The central focus of their discussions was the development of bilateral cooperation in higher education and scientific research.

During the meetings, the Ambassador presented the “Study in Kazakhstan” program, a strategic initiative designed to transform Kazakhstan into an international academic hub. He emphasized the country’s substantial potential for mutually beneficial partnerships, particularly through joint educational projects and collaborative research.

The dialogue explored opportunities for launching joint degree programs, establishing academic exchange schemes, and engaging in interdisciplinary research. Special attention was paid to training specialists in Kazakhstan’s priority fields: agriculture, nuclear energy, chemical industry, mechanical engineering, information technology, and artificial intelligence.

Professor Kačič outlined the key initiatives of the University of Maribor highlighting its Innovation Center, which bridges the gap between science and industry and expressed his readiness to broaden international cooperation and share best practices.

Professor Toplak likewise reaffirmed Alma Mater Europaea University’s keen interest in forging partnerships with Kazakhstani higher education institutions.

To conclude the meetings, Kazakh diplomat proposed organizing a visit by a delegation of Slovenian university representatives to Kazakhstan. The visit would enable direct dialogue between the academic communities of both countries and facilitate discussions on joint programs and research projects.
