Cairo, August 21, 2025 – A ceremony of laying flowers at the monument to the great Kazakh poet and thinker Abai Kunanbaiuly was held in Garden of “Freedom” in the capital of Egypt in honor of his 180th anniversary.
The event was attended by the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Egypt Askar Zhengis, as well as artists from the “Philharmonic named after Danesh Rakishev of Zhetysu Region”, who arrived in Cairo to perform as part of the international event “Citadel Festival”.
The ceremony began with the laying of flowers at the monument. In his speech, Ambassador Zhengis touched upon the topic of Abai’s cultural heritage, his contribution to the development of Kazakh literature and culture, as well as the relevance of his work in the modern world. The participating artists performed a number of Abai songs accompanied by national instruments.
Earlier, on August 18, 2025, with the support of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in the Arab Republic of Egypt, artists of the “Philharmonic named after Danesh Rakishev of Zhetysu Region” took part in the events of the Citadel Festival, held in Cairo.
The event was organized by the prestigious local “Cairo Opera House” with the support of the Egyptian Ministry of Culture.
The event, which gave a great impetus to the development of cultural ties between Kazakhstan and Egypt, was held at a high level.
The artists of the Philharmonic, who managed to present the rich heritage of Kazakh folklore, were warmly welcomed by the local population.
Considering the interest of the Egyptian people in the work of Kazakh artists, the Ministry of Culture of the ARE organized an additional concert on August 20 of 2025 on the stage of the famous “Egyptian Public Library”, located on the banks of the Nile River.
The concert was attended by representatives of the local intelligentsia and authoritative media, and articles were published about the event.
In turn, the Embassy and the organizers agreed to actively continue working in this direction.
