Ambassador of Kazakhstan and the Head of Oman Air Discussed Air Connectivity Expansion and Tourism Development

Muscat, July 29, 2025 – Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the Sultanate of Oman, Aidarbek Tumatov held a meeting with the CEO of Oman’s national airline “Oman Air”, Con Korfiatis.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the current dynamics and future prospects of bilateral cooperation in civil aviation and tourism. It was noted that due to the growing popularity of the current Muscat-Almaty route, operated by omani airline company “Salam Air”, the number of direct flights has increased from three to four per week. This creates favorable conditions for the further expansion of the route network, both between other cities in Kazakhstan and Oman and in the context of transit flights to China, with Almaty serving as a hub.

Special attention was given to the opportunities provided by Kazakhstan’s fifth-freedom “open skies” regime, which allows foreign carriers to operate transit flights through the country. This initiative opens new opportunities for passenger connectivity.

The parties reaffirmed their mutual interest in developing a constructive partnership and emphasized the potential for elevating the current cooperation to a qualitatively new level.

It was also noted that the issue of expanding aviation cooperation is planned to be included in the agenda of the upcoming round of the Kazakhstan-Oman Intergovernmental Commission, scheduled for October 2025. It is expected that the relevant authorities of both countries will hold technical consultations to work out the practical implementation of the proposed initiatives.
