Baar, July 16, 2025 – Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Switzerland Kairat Sarzhanov visited Glencore's headquarters and met with the CEO Gary Nagle, as well as senior staff of the international trading company's Nickel-Zinc Department.
During the meeting, the parties discussed Glencore's current activities at its industrial sites in East Kazakhstan, Akmola and Ulytau regions of Kazakhstan, and plans to modernize production facilities and implement the best sustainable practices in the mining industry. Particular focus was given to utilizing Glencore's technological expertise and Kazakhstan's interest in the exploration of rare earth metals.
The management of the Swiss company confirmed its interest in further development of joint projects, as well as its commitment to environmental, social and governance sustainability principles (ESG).
Glencore has been present in Kazakhstan since 1997, being the majority shareholder of the mining and metallurgical company Kazzinc and a notable foreign investor. As a member of the Foreign Investors Council under the President of Kazakhstan, Glencore makes proposals for the development of the mining industry.
In 2024, Glencore was ranked 24th in the Fortune 500 global rating and 6th among the largest foreign companies in Kazakhstan in terms of tax payments to the budget.
