Algeria, June 22, 2025 – Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Algeria Anuarbek Akhmetov met with Youcef Cherfa, the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria.
The parties discussed in detail promising areas of joint work in the agricultural sector, trade in agricultural products, exchange of experience in arid climate conditions, and the creation of a legal framework.
The interlocutors outlined an action plan for the earliest possible achievement of specific results in the interests of farmers and consumers of the two countries.
During the meeting Minister Cherfa was given a letter from the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Aidarbek Saparov, with a detailed outline of proposals for cooperation between the two ministries and an invitation to visit our country.
In his turn, Minister Cherfa fully supported Minister Saparov’s proposals. In addition, the Algerian minister highly appreciated the pace of development of the agricultural sector of Kazakhstan and expressed readiness to promptly launch full-fledged mutually beneficial cooperation in this sector with our country.
The Minister also invited Kazakh officials and farmers to take part in Algerian agricultural exhibitions and salons.
Algeria is one of the largest importers of wheat, number fifth in the global ranking and purchasing up to 9 million tons annually.
For the period of January-April 2025, Kazakhstan has already supplied about 8.7 thousand tons of wheat to Algeria for 2.5 million US dollars.
In addition, Algeria is an important importer of meat with annual deliveries of up to 100 thousand tons. For example, for the celebration of Eid al-Adha in 2025, Algeria purchased about 1 million heads of sheep on foreign markets.
Algeria has achieved a significant success in the development of the Sahara Desert, where about 40 thousand hectares have been developed and vegetable crops are grown using underground water resources.
