Governor of Hiroshima Prefecture Commends Kazakhstan’s Contribution to the Global Nuclear Non-Proliferation Process

Tokyo, June 9, 2025 – Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Japan Yerlan Baudarbek-Kozhatayev met with Hidehiko Yuzaki, Governor of Hiroshima Prefecture, to discuss the current situation of the worldwide nuclear nonproliferation system.

The Japanese politician briefed the Ambassador on the current activities of the Hiroshima Organisation for Global Peace (HOPE), including the measures being implemented in the areas of humanitarian cooperation, security and sustainable development.

Hidehiko Yuzaki praised the initiatives of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of nuclear non-proliferation and Astana’s chairmanship of the Third Meeting of States Parties to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons held on March 3, 2025 in New York. He also expressed his intention to deepen cooperation for a Nuclear Free World through education and public awareness activities.

For his part, Ambassador Baudarbek-Kozhatayev informed about the key aspects of foreign policy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of security and the ideas of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to promote global cooperation, published on the American newspaper “The Hill”.

The two parties discussed the potential for deepening economic, cultural and humanitarian ties between Hiroshima Prefecture and Abay Region and they agreed to collaborate, including mutual visits and educational activities.
