Wassenaar, June 4, 2025 – А cultural event took place dedicated to the works of the prominent Kazakhstani artist Yerbolat Tolepbay. The evening was attended by representatives of the royal family, government bodies, the diplomatic corps, academic and artistic circles, international organizations, the media, as well as the Dutch business community. At the heart of their attention was the solo exhibition, showcasing works that profoundly reflect the symbolism and philosophy of Kazakh culture.
A special catalog published for this event opened with a quote from the speech of the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev: “Culture shapes the face of a nation. The world first becomes acquainted with our country through our art. We are the direct heirs of the unique culture of the Great Steppe. The unmatched masterpieces created on Kazakh soil have played a key role in shaping our national identity. Today, our distinctive culture is gaining global recognition.”
The Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Kairat Abdrakhmanov, emphasized that the Master's art is not merely a reflection of Kazakh culture but a living manifestation of our national identity, historical memory, and the resilient spirit of the Kazakh people. Through his works, filled with profound symbolism and spiritual harmony, Yerbolat Tolepbay leads us into the world of the Great Steppe, where images of ancient traditions and modern consciousness converge. “By sharing this cultural experience in the Kingdom of the Netherlands today, we reaffirm the strong ties between our countries – not only through diplomatic dialogue but also through a dialogue of artistic excellence, mutual respect, and creative exchange. Let this exhibition become a bridge between our peoples and a celebration of art that transcends national borders,” concluded the diplomat.
The works of artist Tolepbay sparked great interest among the guests and laid the foundation for a productive dialogue between representatives of the creative intelligentsia of both countries. In addition, attendees of the event had the opportunity to enjoy performances of traditional Kazakh kuis on the dombra by Yerkin Kudaibergen – a virtuoso Kazakhstani dombra player who actively promotes Kazakh folk music – as well as piano pieces by Gulmira Issabekova, a Kazakhstani pianist living in the Netherlands, known for her performances on the international stage. Their music created a unique atmosphere reflecting the richness of Kazakh culture.
Guests were also treated to a tasting of Kazakh national cuisine in the spirit of our people's warm hospitality and nomadic traditions.
This cultural event became a significant contribution to the further strengthening of cultural and diplomatic ties between Kazakhstan and the Netherlands, serving as a vibrant showcase of the Land of the Great Steppe.
